Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute (DYPBBI), started in the year of 2004, is a constituent unit of
D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth which is accredited by NAAC with ^'A^' grade. DYPBBI is well adapted to the interdisciplinary mode of biotechnology research needed for such goals. The academic and research units at DYPBBI have clear objectives and goals. DYPBBI is striving to provide cutting edge knowledge and practical experience in all the sectors of biotechnology. The institute has separate departments of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Industrial Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Plant and Animal Tissue Culture with highly qualified faculty and well equipped laboratories.

DYPBBI is extensively used for intensive research by the hosts and neighboring and national institutions for research collaborations. DYPBBI is also a major stakeholder in human resource development. DYPBBI offers B. Tech in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, M. Tech (Integrated) in Biotechnology and M. Sc. in Biotechnology.

Department of Industrial Biotechnology & Microbiology :

The Department is an active and full fledged centre of teaching and research. It offers courses in Industrial Microbiology, General Microbiology, Immunology and Biotechnology and Bioengineering. It trains students towards B.Tech (Biotechnology), B.Tech (Bioinformatics), M.Tech, M.Sc. (Biotechnology) and research. The Department has adequate infrastructure in terms of latest equipments and technologies for teaching and research. The students get hands on training on the use of fermentors, strain improvement, microbial identification, screening and production of bioactive compounds, downstream processing using automated and semi-automated approaches and immunological and diagnostic procedures using ELISA readers, etc. The Department has a small in house culture collection of bacteria, fungi and microalgae. The students are extensively trained during rigorous practical sessions and are also sent to several national level research institutes and other Universities for summer and winter training programs. They have full time access to internet and to institutional library.

Department of Bioinformatics & Computer Science :

The Department is an active and full fledged centre of teaching and research. It offers courses in Sequence and structure analysis, Molecular simulations, Protein Modeling and Drug Designing. In addition to this the department also offers various computer science's subjects & languages like Computer Fundamentals, Java, C, VB, Data structure, Oracle, VB.Net, Networking Etc. It trains students towards B.Tech (Biotechnology), B.Tech (Bioinformatics), M.Tech, M.Sc. (Biotechnology) and research. The Department has adequate infrastructure in terms of latest software's such as Hyperchem, Molecular Operating Environment (MOE), System statistic (SYSSTAT) and Schrödinger. The Institute has well equipped computer laboratory with ninety five personal computers with LAN connection and internet facilities through which students can access scientific literature, lectures by faculty, industry news which would help them to create general awareness in the discipline. They cans also access Bioinformatics databases and software, public domain software for molecular graphics and informatics in addition to in house software and application software from commercial vendors (e.g. molecular Modeling packages:-MOE, Schrödinger, SYSTAT and HYPERCHEM). Further institution has ambitious plans for developing one of the best research and development center for contract research program in Pune.
